ABOUT
PING PONG PARKINSON
OUR ORIGIN
We are the LA branch of PingPongParkinson, a 501 c3 non profit organization based in Pleasantville, New York. This commitment to help Parkinson patients was founded by Nenad Bach and and co-founded by Art Dubow. Nenad had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and noticed that his motor symptoms and mood were improved by playing ping pong. This non-pharmacological approach to his treatment was encouraged by his neurologists who confirmed his improved status. Nenad subsequently recruited several volunteers from the club, including Will Shortz, the crossword editor of the New York Times and the owner of the Westchester Table Tennis Center, Dr. Art Dubow, who together with Nenad created the PPP program; plus Irene Silbert, a PR professional – all working together to establish the PPP group.
ABOUT
THE LA
FOUNDERS
Angie Tan and Joanna Sung began playing table tennis together from the age of seven. They competed together as Team USA on the international stage for over eight years. Now, they are both college students who share a strong passion for the field of medicine. The discovery of table tennis as an effective therapeutic treatment for Parkinson's disease inspired them to start Ping Pong Parkinson LA together. These two UCLA students hope to create a welcoming community where all Parkinson’s patients can exercise and have fun together.
